- What kind of substrate can install Clay Plasters directly?
- The substrate should be completely dry, sufficiently rough, firm, stable, clean, dust-free, free of grease and penetrating substances. Permanent moisture or high salinity must be prevented. Loose or flaking material (such as loose paint) must be removed.
- How thick of clay plaster should I install?
- Clay plasters can contribute to comfort in indoor environments, they enhance indoor comfort by mainly regulating humidity levels, with earth-based materials excelling in absorption and release. The moisture buffering primarily occurs within the initial few centimetres. Typically, indoor clay plaster thickness starts at 3mm, yet even a thin layer aids in regulating humidity.
- How many coats should I need to install?
- 3 coats: For optimal humidity control, we typically apply two 1mm layers of clay plaster, totalling almost 3mm. The first evens and roughs the surface, while the second adds textured beauty (Learn more on our case studies). The priming action will make the surface more durable and hard.
- 2 coats: For those on a tight budget seeking improved humidity control, we suggest applying a thin layer of clay plaster, then applying clay paint after actual drying to have a durable surface if necessary.
- Single coat: For those not prioritizing regulating the humidity of humidity in a room, clay paint/clay plaster can be used directly instead of regular paint to achieve a matte wall finish.
- How long does it generally take to dry?
- According to our experience, each layer of clay plaster takes about 1 day to dry completely.
